Matching food and wine is a large part of what we do, it’s just as important as matching the individual ingredients as all these flavour tones will sing in harmony when well paired.

Pairing food and wine does need to be rocket science. If you are chasing the Young Gun of Wine award then maybe so, but for most of us we just want to drink the right wine with the right food for that complimentary marriage of flavour.

We have again opted for wines you would typically find in the local bottle shop or even at home, then given a little insight into what goes with what.

Shortlist of what to pair with…

  • Pinot Noir
  • Syrah/Shiraz
  • Riesling
  • Gewürztraminer
  • Rose

Pinot Noir

What flavours do we get from Pinot Noir: Soft and spicy Cherries, Strawberry, Blackberry, vanilla,

We would typically pair this wine with: Fatty Fish such as Swordfish or Tuna, Pork, Lean cuts of Lamb or even just with a beautiful sunset 😉

Syrah/Shiraz

What flavours do we get from Syrah/Shiraz: Blackberries, Black pepper, Spices

We would typically pair this wine with: Chicken, Smokey BBQ, Curries, Stews and long winter nights

Riesling

What flavours do we get from Riesling: Apples, pears, flowers, minerals

We would typically pair this wine with: Sushi (Yep Riesling is our go to sushi wine) Fish, Cheeses, Chicken, desserts.

Gewürztraminer

What flavours do we get from Gewürztraminer: Lychees, Spices, Flowers, White Grapes

We would typically pair this wine with: Asian foods, Spicy foods, Strong Cheeses

Rose (mixed varieties)

What flavours do we get from Rose: Fruit, Flowers, Citrus, Melon

We would typically pair this wine with: Paella, Grilled Chicken, Charcuterie
